Sassan Nassiri: The Painter of Light and Stillness
Oct 23, 2026 · @Gallory
The calm surface of a swimming pool, the shadow of Tuscan cypresses, and a light that never seems to fade. These are the signatures of Sassan Nassiri, an Iranian painter whose canvases stand somewhere between dream and reality.
In this article, Gallory introduces his life, his visual language and his key works.
From Tehran to Madrid
Sassan Nassiri was born in Iran in 1961. He studied painting at the University of Arts in Tehran and went on to the Fine Arts Academy in Madrid.
Those two schools shaped the two layers of his work: an Eastern sensitivity to light and calm, and the technical command of European realist painting.
Nassiri belongs to Iran’s postmodern generation, artists who emerged after 1979 and built a contemporary, universal language that feels familiar to Western audiences. His work has been shown regularly in Iran, the United States and Europe, including Madrid, New York and Toronto.
Light That Builds Space
Nassiri’s work sits between Pop Art and Hyperrealism. From Hyperrealism he takes precision and clarity; from Pop Art, clear colour and clean composition.
His true subject is the feeling of a place: the softness of a Tuscan road, the hush of a summer afternoon, the coolness of a pool, the play of shadow and light.
Light is the heart of these paintings. It does more than illuminate; it structures the space, shapes the shadows and creates a warm, instantly recognisable atmosphere.
His landscapes feel timeless. Real geography fades and the painter’s imagination takes over, leaving the viewer with one question: is this a dream, or is it real?
Two Summers in Paris
Nassiri has held solo exhibitions at Simine Paris in two consecutive years.
Exhibition | Dates | Focus |
|---|---|---|
Landscapes (second Paris solo show) | 19–22 June 2025 | Tuscany, the French Riviera and the water garden at Giverny |
Summer (first Paris solo show) | 26–30 June 2024 | A calm, luminous summer: water, sky, sun, and at times a woman by the water |
In Summer, the season itself is the protagonist. Time and space step aside, giving way to the blue of the sky and the beauty of a place somewhere between heaven and earth.
Landscapes carried the same language into European scenery: Tuscan cypresses, the azure of Saint-Tropez, and the water lily pond at Giverny, a quiet homage to Monet.
